Sepsis Core Elements: CDC Webinar Series with Free Continuing Education (CE)
The CDC, in collaboration with the American Medical Association, hosted a five-part webinar series to introduce Sepsis Core Elements and share real-life examples, strategies, and best practices to help organizations successfully implement them. Free continuing education credits are available. The series is provided in the five independent parts listed below, which can be completed separately.
- Introduction and Leadership Commitment
- Accountability and Multi-Professional Expertise
- Action
- Tracking and Reporting
- Education
For each of the core elements, top priorities are provided along with additional examples filled with important recommendations. The core elements are intended to be an adaptable framework to guide efforts to optimize sepsis care, therefore not all core elements may be necessary or feasible in all facilities. If you are creating a new sepsis awareness program or restructuring one there is additional guidance for prioritizing initial activities.
Although this program targets hospital settings, this type of education and guidance can be a valuable tool for other inpatient long-term care settings. In addition, the CDC Sepsis Assessment Tool is provided as a companion to the program. This can be used on a periodic basis to help identify items that could be improved upon to increase program effectiveness.
