Sepsis Awareness Month Resources from CDC
(Aug. 19, 2024) The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is committed to focusing on sepsis all year, with a special focus during the month of September, Sepsis Awareness Month. For Sepsis Awareness Month, they provide valuable resources tailored for long-term care facilities to help prevent and manage sepsis. These resources include educational materials on recognizing early signs of sepsis, guidelines for infection control, and protocols for prompt treatment.
The CDC emphasizes the importance of staff training, effective communication with residents and their families, and regular monitoring to reduce the risk of sepsis. These tools aim to enhance the quality of care and improve outcomes for residents in long-term care settings. The observance provides a special opportunity to honor the residents and families impacted by this life-threatening medical emergency and participate in concentrated efforts to raise awareness.
This year during Sepsis Awareness Month, the CDC is highlighting new data showing that hospitals have strengthened sepsis programs to improve processes and the quality of patient care. Long-term care facilities can access free CDC sepsis awareness tools here and read more in the CDC’s latest Safe Healthcare blog post here.
