Moving Forward Coalition Releases Guides to Help Improve Nursing Home Resident Experience
(Aug. 20, 2024) The Moving Forward Coalition, a multi-stakeholder initiative focused on improving nursing home quality, has released two best practice guides for nursing homes aimed at improving the resident experience of care. The first, "A Guide to Strengthening Resident Councils in Nursing Homes," offers best practices and sample forms for structuring and supporting resident councils. The second, "A Guide to Addressing Resident Goals, Preferences and Priorities," offers resources and recommendations for engaging with residents, care partners, and the interdisciplinary team to identify and address the issues that matter most to residents.
The Moving Forward Coalition will be hosting a webinar on Sept. 11th from 2-3 p.m. to describe the outcomes of their resident council pilot at four nursing homes in New Jersey and next steps in expanding the pilot. Registration is here.
Founded by LeadingAge National, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, the John A. Hartford Foundation, and the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, the Moving Forward Coalition seeks to promote and test strategies to advance the goals identified by the 2022 National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine Report.
