HHS Provides Information on Cybersecurity for EMR Users
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Health Sector Cybersecurity Coordination Center (HC3) provided this recent presentation providing guidance and warnings for electronic medical record and electronic health record users. These systems are targets for cyberattacks because they contain Protected Health Information (PHI), which can be used for a variety of malevolent purposes. HHS recommends that health care providers create a proactive preparedness plan that assesses the vulnerabilities in your network and provides guidance needed for a framework that will be effective in identifying and preventing attacks. Unfortunately, the cost of having to deal with an attack after it occurs is enormous. Members are encouraged to review the HHS material and ensure that your organization is taking a proactive approach to protecting your systems.
