Free Resources Available from the Center of Excellence for Behavioral Health in Nursing Facilities
The Center of Excellence for Behavioral Health in Nursing Facilities (COE-NF) was established by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The COE-NF offers certified Medicare and Medicaid nursing facility staff a centralized resource hub with easy access to training, technical assistance, and additional resources at no cost, with a specific focus on training and staff development.
What they do:
- They help nursing facilities improve the quality of life and care provided for residents who are experiencing a variety of behavioral health conditions, with a focus on:
- Serious Mental Illness (SMI);
- Substance Use Disorder (SUD);
- Co-Occurring Disorders (COD); and
- Serious Emotional Disturbance (SED).
How they can help:
- They provide:
- direct technical assistance;
- evidence-based training; and
- resources that are appropriate for every member of a long term care (LTC) facility, from those providing day-to-day direct care to clinical and administrative staff.
Who they help:
- Skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) have access to all COE-NF services free of charge.
- SNFs can submit requests to speak with a regional behavioral specialist within 48 hours for individualized, customized trainings with identified specific needs here.
- SNFs can contact the Call Center from 1 to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday at 1-844-314-1433.
- SNFs also can be part of a working cohort joining together on a live virtual platform with other facilities in the near future.
What if my facility is not a SNF?
- Other LTC facilities and organizations have access to free resources such as the foundational monthly training found here or fact sheets and informational pamphlets found here.
