Fireside Chat Recording Now Available: "How Nursing Homes Can Support and Leverage Their Resident Council"

(Feb. 3, 2025) The Department of Health (DOH) Office of Aging and Long-Term Care (OALTC), the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program (LTCOP), the Healthcare Association of NYS (HANYS), LeadingAge NY, and the NYS Health Facilities Association (NYSHFA) recently participated in an interactive panel discussion about nursing home resident councils and their purpose and benefits. The discussion specifically covered:

• the requirements for the Resident Council and expectations thereof;
• the various contacts who might lend support either to an individual resident or circumstance, resulting in improved overall quality of life; and
• how to leverage the Resident Council to assist in improving overall patient care and quality through transparent two-way communication.
