CMS Issues Updated Enhanced Barrier Precautions FAQs

(June 4, 2024) The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) held a Townhall on May 22nd to discuss recommendations for Enhanced Barrier Precautions (EBP) to reduce the spread of multidrug-resistant organisms in nursing homes. The CDC updated these recommendations in 2022, and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) adopted them as infection control requirements in March 2024. The Townhall reviewed basic information about what EBP are, when they are indicated, for whom, and why, and took questions from webinar participants at the end. Many of these questions can be found in this newly updated Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document.
