Recording Available: Webinar on "Serious Mental Illness" in Affordable Housing

(Aug. 12, 2024) The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Homeless and Housing Resource Center sponsored a webinar on Wed., Aug. 7th titled “Public Housing and Serious Mental Illness: Practical Recommendations for Housing Providers”. The webinar provided an overview of serious mental illness for affordable housing communities, including an overview of symptoms and medications, a review of effective policies and programs, a discussion of applied scenarios and recommendations, and a Q&A with experts.

The webinar was intended for public housing authorities as well as U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Multifamily Housing providers, as well as other types of housing and service providers; the webinar also provided discussions of scenarios at housing communities and how housing staff can use trauma-informed approaches for various representations of mental illness.

The recording is available here.

As a reminder, on April 18th, HUD launched free, voluntary training for Multifamily Service Coordinators to receive Mental Health First Aid training. The training is available on a rolling basis until 2026. Read more about the opportunity, which LeadingAge applauds, here.
