LeadingAge NY Middle-Income Senior Housing Workgroup Developing Solutions for an Underserved Market
(Sept. 10, 2024) Expanding on the work of the LeadingAge NY Retirement Housing Cabinet, a new, member-driven Middle-Income Senior Housing Workgroup was formed earlier this year to create a forum for providers to discuss challenges and opportunities in meeting the housing and service needs of the growing population of middle-income older adults.
Conversations thus far have centered on defining the middle market; identifying which services and amenities are necessary to align with an organization’s mission and meet the needs of older adults; viable avenues of providing those services and amenities at a cost affordable to the middle market; challenges and opportunities in development and financing of middle-market senior housing; and leveraging available resources, information, and expert insights to create a model that works for NY’s providers and residents.
The Middle-Income Senior Housing Workgroup meets monthly, with the next meeting scheduled for Wed., Oct. 2nd from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. All LeadingAge NY members with experience operating, or interest in expanding their mission to include, independent living for the middle market are welcome and encouraged to attend, regardless of Cabinet participation.
