LeadingAge NY Members Form Supportive Senior Housing Workgroup
Expanding on the work of the LeadingAge NY Housing Cabinet, a new, member-driven Supportive Senior Housing Workgroup held its inaugural meeting last week to create a forum for housing and service providers participating or interested in the Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI) and other State supportive housing programs for older adults.
In NYS, “supportive housing” is permanent, affordable rental housing with on-site, wraparound supportive mental health and wellness care services available to allow formerly homeless and at-risk individuals to live independently. ESSHI is one program utilized by the State to fund the development and operation of supportive housing units serving vulnerable populations, including the frail elderly, who are homeless or unstably housed.
Given the unique needs of older adults served by these programs, evolving regulatory requirements, and the increasing number of LeadingAge NY member organizations exploring and participating in the supportive housing model, Housing Cabinet members identified the need for a dedicated space to share questions, concerns, and resources with likeminded peers.
The next virtual meeting of the Supportive Senior Housing Workgroup is scheduled for Tues., July 11th at 2 p.m., with additional meetings to be held monthly throughout 2023. All LeadingAge NY members with experience offering, or providing services in, supportive housing for older adults are welcome and encouraged to attend, regardless of Cabinet participation. Please contact Annalyse Komoroske Denio (akomoroskedenio@leadingageny.org) with any questions or to access the workgroup meetings.
