Retirement Housing Cabinet Holding Workshop on Universal Design
Special Event for All LeadingAge New York Members
Making Accessibility Accessible
A Workshop on Universal Design
And Amenities in Senior Living Communities
The average age of residents of senior living communities has increased in recent years and more elders are choosing to remain in independent living settings as they age. Owners and operators of senior living communities are making changes to the physical environment to meet the needs of residents, who might be more frail and less mobile than years ago.
The concept of Universal Design (UD) refers to creating products and a built environment that is usable to the greatest extent possible, by elders and people with disabilities. The workshop will introduce the UD concept and discuss its practical applications in senior living communities, with an emphasis on adapting existing residential communities for greater accessibility.
LeadingAge New York’s Retirement Housing Cabinet is hosting this UD workshop to discuss these issues at length, with practitioners who have planned and implemented UD in senior living communities.
