New 2022 Person-Centered Training Sessions Available
The New York State Department of Health (DOH) and its partners have announced that the Person-Centered Planning Statewide Training Initiative has been extended in 2022. The next round of training sessions for the Person-Centered Planning Virtual Training series will kick off this month. These two-hour, interactive Zoom sessions each present a unique set of concepts, skills, ideas, and discussions related to person-centered thinking, planning, and practice.
All providers of home and community-based services (HCBS) Medicaid, including social and adult day health care (ADHC) programs, are required to engage in person-centered service training according to the HCBS Settings Rule, which was established to ensure that people receive services in settings that are integrated in, and support full access to, their community. This includes opportunities to seek employment and work within the community, engage in community life, control personal resources, and receive services in a similar way as individuals who do not use HCBS services. It means that HCBS programs or settings need to focus on the nature and quality of individuals' experiences and not just on the buildings and safety procedures in place where the services are delivered. These federal standards apply to all HCBS provided through New York's 1915(c) waivers, Community First Choice Option, Managed Care, and Managed Long Term Care (MLTC).
Providers can learn more about the rule and training options here.
