Hospice DAL Issued Regarding Criminal History Record Checks
The Department of Health (DOH) has issued a Dear Administrator Letter (DAL) to assist hospice providers in complying with Criminal History Record Check (CHRC) requirements pursuant to Chapter 471 of the Laws of 2016 and its corresponding regulations. The requirement became effective April 1, 2018 for all hospice providers licensed and certified under Article 40 of the Public Health Law. DOH has added several training documents to the Health Commerce System (HCS) and urges providers to use them as they develop policies and procedures on the new requirement:
- Introduction to the Health Commerce System: A recorded presentation of an introduction to HCS for home care agencies
- CHRC application process: A presentation that describes the process for obtaining CHRC checks for potential employees
- Introduction to Criminal History Record Check: An introduction to the Criminal History Record Check system
- Introduction to the Home Care Worker Registry: An introduction to the HCWR
Providers should update their administrator role within the HCS to assign a designated person to complete the CHRC tasks. Please review the DAL for more information.
Questions regarding implementation of the CHRC process should be directed to chrc@health.ny.gov.
