Update on the HH PPS final rule – therapy provisions

In the Nov. 6 issue of Intelligence, we reported on the final rule for “Medicare Program; Home Health Prospective Payment System (HHPPS) Rate Update for Calendar Year (CY) 2013, Hospice Quality Reporting Requirements, and Survey and Enforcement Requirements for Home Health Agencies."  On Nov. 21, CMS released an update to the final rule for therapy provisions:

“The provisions in the final rule are effective for episodes ending on or after Jan. 1, 2013, unless otherwise specified in the final rule. For episodes that begin in CY 2012 and end in CY 2013, the therapy provisions of this final rule do not apply. The therapy provisions of this final rule are applicable to episodes that begin on or after Jan. 1, 2013.”
