One Year and Counting - ICD-10 Compliance Date for 10/2015
A reminder that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued a rule finalizing Oct. 1, 2015 as the new compliance date for health care providers, health plans and health care clearinghouses to transition to ICD-10.
Providers, including home care and others in the health care industry still have time to ramp up their operations to ensure their systems and business processes are ready to go live Oct. 1, 2015. The rule requires the use of ICD-10 beginning Oct. 1, 2015. The rule will also require HIPAA covered entities to continue to use ICD-9-CM through Sept. 30, 2015.
On Wed., Nov. 5; 1:30-3 p.m. ET, CMS will host a webinar on Transitioning to ICD-10. To register, please visit: MLN Connects™ Upcoming Calls. Space may be limited, so register early. During this MLN Connects™ National Provider Call, CMS subject matter experts will discuss ICD-10 implementation issues, opportunities for testing and resources. A question and answer session will follow the presentations.
The agenda will include:
- Final rule and national implementation
- Medicare Fee-For-Service testing
- Medicare Severity Diagnosis Related Grouper (MS-DRG) Conversion Project
- Partial code freeze and annual code updates
- Plans for National Coverage Determinations (NCDs) and Local Coverage Determinations (LCDs)
- Home health conversions
- Claims that span the implementation date
To help prepare for this transition, CMS is also soliciting volunteers to conduct limited end-to-end testing with the MACs for the first round of testing, 1/26-1/30/15. The sample of 50 participants for each MAC will be selected from the volunteers to represent a broad cross-section of provider types, claims types and submitter types. Selected testers will be notified that they have been selected by 10/24/14. Those selected will be provided specific details regarding how to test and who to contact for testing support.
If you are interested in testing your end-to-end ICD-10-CM transactions, please complete and submit the online Volunteer Testing Form before Fri., Oct. 3, 2014.
