Emergency Preparedness Toolkit Available for Home Care and Hospice Providers
Emergency preparedness in home care and hospice presents unique challenges for all those involved. Unlike facilities and institutions, patients that are cared for in their homes have a broad spectrum of conditions and needs and are geographically widespread across communities. The unique characteristics of home care require a much more complex approach to preparedness and response.
The Emergency Preparedness Toolkit for home care and hospice was compiled with the assistance of a workgroup of providers, the Home Care Association of New York State (HCA), the New York State Association of Health Care Providers (HCP), and the New York State Department of Health (DOH). It is a compilation of resources to help agencies assist patients and families as they prepare in advance of any type of emergency. Categories of resources include:
- General Preparedness Tips
- Food Safety
- Emergency Supply Checklist & Communication Plans
- Utility Outages
- Special Safety Resources
Please share this resource with staff, patients, and families, or pick and choose among the resources provided that best fit the needs of your staff and patients. This toolkit can be found on the Health Commerce System (HCS) under Documents by Group > Long Term Care > Preparedness.
