CHHA and Hospice HERDS Reporting Update
The Department of Health (DOH) recently communicated to home care provider associations that as of Jan. 4th, Certified Home Health Agencies (CHHAs) and hospice providers who fail to submit the Health Emergency Response Data System (HERDS) survey more than twice in a month will be referred for enforcement. The fine will be $2,000 per occurrence. The Department's Division of Home and Community Based Services pulls a list at 2 p.m. on reporting days of every provider that has failed to submit the survey, and they call each one. DOH prepares a comprehensive call list and tracks the calls. They ask that any provider who is having difficulty with reporting email hcstatrpts@health.ny.gov or call 518-408-1638.
DOH urges providers to designate staff to be responsible for submissions. Also, submission is required on holidays that fall on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Members should know that DOH will likely not issue a Dear Administrator Letter (DAL) to this effect.
