New York Moves Forward with Modified MRT Waiver
New York State Medicaid Director, Jason Helgerson, gave an update last week regarding the state’s Medicaid Redesign Team (MRT) waiver submission to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The waiver proposal would allow the state to reinvest $10 billion in MRT-generated federal savings back into the state’s health care delivery system over a period of five years. Although the Department of Health (DOH) has worked hard to get CMS support for the concepts proposed in the submission, CMS has informed New York that several activities are not directly fundable with Medicaid waiver dollars. LeadingAge New York is disappointed at the federal restrictions as many of these initiatives would have supported critical member needs; however, DOH is trying to ensure that the aims of the initial waiver submission remain intact in their proposed modifications.
