Advocacy for SSI Increase for ACFs in Full Swing!
LeadingAge New York has been working to secure an increase in the rate for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) for individuals living in adult care (ACF) and assisted living facilities. We made significant progress in last year's budget, with the Senate including it in their budget bill. We continued working on the issue after the budget process, in preparation for this year's budget. We promoted a stand-alone bill to increase SSI, and talked with legislators during our advocacy day in April about this critical issue. We have continued our advocacy with meetings around the State to draw attention to the issue. This week, LeadingAge NY members from the Binghamton area are meeting with key leaders to explain the need for an increase in the SSI rate. We want to take a moment to thank those members; their advocacy benefits ACF/assisted living members statewide, and the low-income residents they serve.
We will reach out to members as our efforts move around the State. Our goal is to continue to raise the issue so that it will be included in the final budget this year! We will keep members apprised of our efforts and your opportunities to contribute. In the meantime, if you talk with your legislators, be sure to let them know about this important issue.
