Updates on EQUAL and NARCAN Training for ACFs

(Aug. 13, 2024) LeadingAge NY talks with the Department of Health (DOH) frequently and offers two quick updates for adult care facility (ACF) and assisted living members.

EQUAL

DOH has informed us that the application for EQUAL funds will be available soon, likely by the end of the month. DOH noted that the application process has not substantially changed from last year, but it will be administered by a different “Center” within the Office of Aging and Long Term Care this year.

NARCAN Training

In addition, we know members have been awaiting guidance regarding the NARCAN Naloxone nasal spray that was received a few months ago. DOH plans to conduct a training in October to provide ACFs with more information. We have submitted member questions and concerns to be addressed in that training.

While awaiting the upcoming DOH training, providers interested in getting information sooner can access trainings offered by the New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS) available  here, and NYC training resources here. OASAS also offers free virtual training for "private" groups comprising of organization staff, volunteers, members, clients, or local community members.  Email SOR@oasas.ny.gov or Mandee.Nann@oasas.ny.gov for more information.
