One Thing Assisted Living Providers Should Start Doing Now
According to Josh Allen, RN and CEO of Care and Compliance Group, assisted living providers should start tracking their hospitalization and rehospitalization rates now. In a changing world that provides financial incentives for positive outcomes and imposes costs for negative outcomes, data can help providers tell a story about why their services are so valuable. Hospitalization rates are one of the key indicators that translate to costs or rewards for providers that assisted living operators may partner or work with. In his presentation at the LeadingAge New York Annual Conference, Allen provided the audience with resources to assist in data collection. Click here to learn about INTERACT (Interventions to Reduce Acute Care Transfers); a quality improvement program to help manage changes in resident condition. Tools, including a spreadsheet for tracking hospitalization, are already available online. Collecting data such as this in a systematic way will be critical to demonstrate the effectiveness of your services to managed long term care organizations, accountable care organizations, health homes and other partners. INTERACT is currently adapting the resources to be specific for the assisted living environment.
