Governor Signs Into Law Requirement for ACFs to Collect Race or Ethnicity Information Regarding Residents

On June 30th, Governor Hochul signed into law A.9290 (Forrest)/S.8813 (Rivera), which requires the collection of information regarding race or ethnicity of adult care facility (ACF) residents to be documented within the chronological admission and discharge register. LeadingAge NY had made suggestions to collect and document this information in the admission paperwork; however, the law was signed by the Governor without change. The law will be in effect on the 90th day after it became law, bringing us to a Sept. 28th effective date. We anticipate more guidance from the Department of Health (DOH) in the weeks to come, which we will share with ACF and assisted living members.
