Resources for Providers for the Extreme Heat This Week

(June 17, 2024) The Department of Health (DOH) has issued guidance regarding the excessive heat expected this week. They want to ensure that providers are prepared and alert. DOH is encouraging providers with generators to test them now, in advance of the extreme heat, to ensure that they are in working order. During the event, they encourage providers to offer fluids to staff, residents, and patients regularly, and encourage residents and patients to limit time outdoors.

DOH has asked that nursing homes and adult care facilities (ACFs) ensure that emergency plans are up to date in case of need for evacuation. This is also a good time to ensure that you know where your Evacuation of Facilities in Disasters Systems (eFINDS) equipment is.

Resources for the General Public

The State and City have cooling centers available to the public; more information can be accessed here.

Additionally, the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) is a federally funded program that helps low-income homeowners and renters heat and cool their homes. This includes support to apply to obtain air conditioning. Click here for more information.
