DOH Issues Guidance to ACFs Regarding Naloxone

(Nov. 26, 2024) The Department of Health (DOH) issued this Dear Administrator Letter (DAL) and Policy and Procedure Toolkit providing adult care facilities (ACFs) with information regarding the naloxone that was distributed several months ago. It is crucial to have this opioid overdose reversal medication available in the event of an emergency, as well as appropriate training and procedures for its administration. The DAL discusses how to maintain ongoing access to naloxone, provides videos that train individuals about the signs and symptoms of an overdose and the administration of naloxone, and provides resources for policies and procedures. The Office of Drug User Health is offering a one-hour training on Jan. 15, 2025 at 12 p.m. during which participants will achieve an understanding about the administration of naloxone and what is required after an event has occurred. Pre-registration is required here

We recommend that ACFs review the guidance carefully and direct any questions to DOH at acfinfo@health.ny.gov.
