Residents and Staff of Seneca Hill Manor Receive 2nd Dose of COVID-19 Vaccine

Sixty-one staff members and 63 residents at Seneca Hill Manor received their second dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine on Jan. 20th. An additional 20 staff members and 18 residents received their first dose. In addition, a vaccine clinic was held at Springside at Seneca Hill Retirement Community, and 52 residents signed up for their first dose.

Syracuse Agencies Win $197,000 from Health Foundation for Western & Central New York

The Health Foundation for Western & Central New York has awarded a $197,000 demonstration project grant to a coalition of agencies in Onondaga and Erie counties to devise and test innovative approaches to assist family caregivers of older adults. Project SECURE (Supporting the Experience of Caregivers to Upstate Region Elders) is spearheaded by Syracuse Jewish Family Service at Menorah Park and co-led by Buffalo’s Erie County Senior Services.

In the fight against COVID-19, Wartburg has reached another milestone: its first independent living resident vaccination. Azilda Sauls, a resident of the Friedrichs Residence, received her first of two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine on Jan. 20th.

Jewish Senior Life Earns Award for Staff Education Program

Jewish Senior Life is pleased to announce that it has won a Jewish Programming Award from the Association for Jewish Aging Services (AJAS) for its Jewish Life & Learning Coordinator Initiative. This award recognizes Jewish programs developed and implemented by AJAS organizations that are “innovative, creative and specifically designed to enhance the spiritual well-being of the older adults they serve.”

NY nursing home residents expected to have received or been offered at least 1 vaccine dose by weekend's end

A new News 12 Long Island segment spotlights the COVID-19 vaccination program at Gurwin Jewish Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, where, as of Jan. 17th, nearly every resident who was willing and physically able to get the vaccine had received it, with about 80 percent compliance among residents.
