LeadingAge NY and Partner Associations Host ACF/AL 101 Webinar for Legislators
On Fri., Dec. 9th, LeadingAge NY, the Empire State Association of Assisted Living (ESAAL), the New York State Center for Assisted Living (NYSCAL), and Argentum NY partnered to host an Adult Care Facility (ACF)/Assisted Living (AL) 101 webinar for New York State legislators. During the hour-long webinar, our group of partnered associations shared information on the different types of AL offered in New York State, how this model differs from others within the continuum of long term care, how these facilities are funded and regulated, and the many benefits of AL. We also took the opportunity to share some general information on challenges being experienced by AL providers as they aim to help older adults maintain their independence, health, and dignity as they age.
All four associations had the opportunity to present during the webinar, and there were 10 minutes left at the end to answer any questions from legislators. Questions and discussion ran slightly past our scheduled time, as lawmakers had several questions regarding the impact of workforce challenges, clarity around the impact of Health Emergency Response Data System (HERDS) reporting, how the Ombudsman program supports residents, and how many ACFs are non-profit or public in New York State.
The group of associations will be hosting an additional webinar for newly elected legislators in January. In the new year, there will be many new faces in Albany who will need to be educated on the services offered by ACFs and AL, and why these services are critical to aging New Yorkers.
