Join the LeadingAge National Workforce Day of Action on July 27th!
It is time for us to make more noise to let our elected leaders in Washington, D.C., know that they must act NOW for the aging services workforce! On Wed., July 27th, join fellow LeadingAge members around the country for a virtual National Workforce Day of Action and demand that Congress take responsibility and immediate action to address the workforce crisis in aging services.
On July 27th, we ask LeadingAge NY members to:
- Contact your members of Congress and tell them to take action on legislation that will strengthen the workforce and support the aging services infrastructure.
- Post a story on social media urging others to take action and show how your workforce is making a difference by serving older adults in your community.
- Recruit residents and staff to add their voices to our advocacy as we urge Congress to take action during the Aging Services Workforce Now campaign – and beyond.
Earlier this month, LeadingAge National launched the Aging Services Workforce Now campaign that will run through the summer months and beyond. The campaign includes this National Day of Action as well as congressional and administration briefings, a series of action alerts, letter writing, and targeted meetings with specific members of Congress. The campaign also has its own issue brief, available here.
The campaign specifies some key policy asks, including:
- Pay aging services professionals a living wage;
- Offer incentives to retain and attract qualified staff;
- Expand training and advancement opportunities;
- Build dependable international pipelines of trained caregivers; and
- Enact meaningful, equitable long term care financing.
