Engage Family Members in Nursing Home Advocacy Effort
LeadingAge NY is partnering in advocacy with a new group of nursing home resident family members calling themselves the Nursing Home Families of New York. As a pro-nursing home group, Nursing Home Families of New York seeks to work collaboratively with administrators to understand key issues and develop practical solutions for their advocacy efforts.
LeadingAge NY is partnering with the group in advocating for increased wages for nursing home direct care staff, to be funded in full through an increase in Medicaid reimbursement. We are in the early stages of this advocacy effort; however, we feel that there is great untapped advocacy potential with our nursing home families, and we need your help getting started.
Nursing home member administrators are strongly encouraged to consider and recommend a few resident family members connected to their organization who would serve as good partners in advocacy. This letter from Nursing Home Families of New York further explains the group's intentions and asks administrators to assist in the recruitment of family advocates. The letter also shares the details of an introductory call for nursing home families and administrators to learn more about the campaign and how they can begin to get involved in advocating for increased Medicaid reimbursement and increased wages for direct care workers. The introductory call will be held on Tues., Nov. 9th at 1 p.m. Family members interested in joining this advocacy network and receiving information on the introductory call must sign up here.
