Governor Action on Priority Bills Due Dec. 19th
(Dec. 16, 2025) During the 2025 Legislative Session, approximately 10 top-priority bills relevant to the LeadingAge NY membership were passed by the Legislature. Of the 10 priority bills passed by the Legislature, LeadingAge NY supported five and opposed three. LeadingAge NY sent letters of support or opposition on all bills on which we had a strong position. Some bills were deemed a priority to monitor, but LeadingAge NY held a neutral position.
As a reminder, bills passed by both houses of the Legislature must be signed by the Governor to become law. The Governor also has the option to work with the Legislature to amend bills or reject them with a veto. Once a bill is delivered, the Governor has 10 days to act.
UPDATE: As of this writing, most of LeadingAge NY’s top-priority bills have been delivered to and/or acted upon by the Governor. The most recent batch of bills was delivered to the Governor on Dec. 8th and will be acted upon by Fri., Dec. 19th. The only priority bill not yet delivered for action is the Medical Aid in Dying Act.
Members can find a short review of priority bills passed by both houses, LeadingAge NY positions, letters to the Governor, and Governor actions below. Please note that the bills that did not pass in 2025 or were vetoed by the Governor could be back again for potential passage in the 2026 Legislative Session beginning on Wed., Jan. 7th.
