DOH Commissioner Announces Resignation; Executive Chamber Announces Appointments While Search for New Health Commissioner Continues

On Sept. 23rd, Governor Hochul announced during a COVID-19 press conference that Department of Health (DOH) Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker had submitted his letter of resignation. During the briefing, the Governor confirmed the resignation, stated that she agreed with Dr. Zucker’s decision, and thanked him for his seven and a half years of public service. Dr. Zucker has served as Health Commissioner since 2013 and will continue in the role until a replacement is announced. While the rumor mill is swirling with potential candidates for the position, there have been no official announcements or decisions made on who will be the next appointed Commissioner.

Since taking office in late August, the Governor has announced many appointments and changes to her administration. During last week’s briefing, she suggested that other changes would be forthcoming. LeadingAge NY is keeping tabs on all new administrative appointments that are pertinent for our membership and public policy initiatives.
