As the State Legislative session and state budget process gets underway, LeadingAge New York and its members have launched an advocacy campaign calling on Governor Hochul and policy makers to reform and invest in nursing home reimbursement and provide funding that better matches the cost of providing care.

LeadingAge NY will be hosting our January Public Affairs Council meeting this Thurs., Jan. 11^th at 3 p.m. If you have not already signed up to be a part of the Council, you can still do so here!

The new law will take effect Jan. 1, 2025 and will update state code to include standards for emergency planning and preparedness for those living with a disability in a high-rise building.

In the final days of December, Governor Hochul acted upon nine long term care-related bills that were passed by the Legislature in 2023. LeadingAge NY provides a review of these bills, along with related writings and outcomes.

The Assembly Standing Committees on Health, Mental Health, People with Disabilities, Higher Education, and Labor held a joint legislative hearing on the status of the state’s health care workforce on Tues., Dec. 19^th at Hunter College in NYC. The hearing was invitation only, but fortunately LeadingAge NY was offered the opportunity to weigh in.

LeadingAge NY has created digital letter-writing campaigns, written from the perspective of different nursing home stakeholders. Please take a moment to send a letter to the Governor TODAY! 

With five weeks left until the release of the 2024-25 Executive Budget Proposal, NOW is a critical time to get the Governor’s attention! Members are strongly encouraged to use these simple advocacy tools TODAY and as much as possible over the coming weeks.
