Urge Governor Hochul to Eliminate the Daily HERDS Survey!

(Dec. 10, 2024) On Mon., Dec. 9th, LeadingAge NY hosted a statewide day of action to urge Governor Hochul to eliminate the daily Health Electronic Response Data System (HERDS) survey. We encouraged members and our advocacy partners to take a few moments to call and leave a message with the Governor’s office urging her to eliminate this daily requirement for nursing homes and adult care facilities (ACFs).

During yesterday's day of action, we heard from many members that the Governor's call line was experiencing "higher-than-normal volume," and some members were being told that it would be a 90-minute wait to leave a message! While we are not able to know exactly how many calls were placed, we heard directly from dozens of members that they had placed calls and left lengthy messages. THANK YOU for taking the time to advocate for the elimination of this burdensome and unnecessary requirement!

If you were not able to get through the wait time or place a call yesterday, members are still encouraged to call the Governor's office using the below information TOMORROW, Wed., Dec. 11th. Below, members will find the Governor’s contact information, along with talking points to inform voice messages to her. If you already left a message yesterday, it will not be necessary to place another call at this time. Rather, it may be good to keep the line free if you have already left a message this week.

If you have not yet called the Governor, please take the following actions on Wed., Dec. 11th, and urge your colleagues to do the same. We are aiming to make as much noise as possible to get this burdensome survey finally eliminated, but we need your help!

  1. Call the Governor at 518-474-8390 to urge the elimination of the daily HERDS survey.
    • When you call, press “1” to leave a message.
  2. Talking points to inform your phone call/voice message are available hereFeel free to use any that resonate with you, or share your own examples.

In addition to placing phone calls, members interested in writing to the Governor in opposition to the daily HERDS survey can click here to send a digital letter to her office today. It only takes a few clicks.

Thank you for your advocacy on this issue! Please let us know if you encounter any challenges or questions.
